Be a considerate member of the EV charging community! Three simple etiquette tips for courteous fast charging, including: (1) only park in an EV charging space when you're actually charging, (2) use the EVgo app to monitor your charge should you decide to leave your vehicle, and (3) switch to an L2 charger once you've hit an 80% charge. And, of course, please remember to follow your local health and safety guidelines while charging!

Charging spaces are for charging only

Electric vehicles (EVs) should only be parked in a designated charging space when they are actively charging. When a charge is complete, drivers should disconnect their vehicles immediately and move their cars from the space to allow other customers to access the charger. In some places, you can even be ticketed for leaving a car in an EV charging space while not actively charging.

Switch to a Level 2 charger once you hit 80%

Did you know that the battery for your EV determines how quickly it can charge? Most EVs slow down the charging rate of a fast charge once the car is charged to 80% -- so once you hit 80%, consider wrapping up your charging session or moving to a nearby Level 2 charger if another car is waiting for the fast charger.

Know which side your port is on

Some EVgo fast chargers can be accessed by multiple parking spots. Knowing the location of your vehicle’s charging port before pulling into a spot will help avoid awkward cable pulls across your neighbor’s car.

Put the connector back on when you’re done

Placing the connector securely in the charger holster helps prevent damage to the connector and eliminates a tripping hazard for other EV drivers. If there’s an issue with a connector, use the “Report an issue” function in the EVgo app or call EVgo Customer Support at (877) 494-3833 to report it, 24/7.

If you aren’t going to stay with your vehicle while it charges, consider leaving a note to let other drivers know whether it’s okay to safely unplug the connector from your car the charging session is complete, when it reaches an 80% charge, or if you’re willing to give up your charger for an emergency.

Keep the smooth, relaxing experience of an EV going, even at the charging station. Please keep your music low and toss your trash in the proper waste receptacles.
