Shoppers can take advantage of self-service charging stations at Washington, D.C.-area shopping centers

WASHINGTON, D.C. (April 22, 2015) – Simon (NYSE: SPG), a global leader in retail real estate, and NRG eVgo (ee-vee-go), a subsidiary of NRG Energy, Inc. (NYSE: NRG), are introducing electric car fast charging stations this spring at Hagerstown Premium Outlets and Leesburg Corner Premium Outlets to provide an added convenience to their shoppers.

“We know our shoppers have a choice when they choose where to find the best deals, so we want to do everything we can to make their experience enjoyable and convenient,” said Angie Riford, director of marketing and business development for Hagerstown Premium Outlets. “The addition of these charging stations is a way to serve our shoppers and contribute to Simon’s sustainability practices.”

The Hagerstown Premium Outlets “Freedom Station,” located near The Children’s Place, will feature one CHAdeMO direct current (DC) fast-charging station, which provides a Tesla, Nissan LEAF, and Kia Soul-EV with approximately 40 miles of range in 15 minutes of charging, and one Level 2 charger that supports all EVs and plug-in Hybrids

Shoppers at Leesburg Corner Premium Outlets can take advantage of its three charging stations, located near Adidas. Its DC fast-charging station and two Level 2 chargers, are self-service and easy to operate. Adding convenience to the shopping experience of its green drivers, these stations also support Simon’s sustainability efforts and exercise the company’s green energy initiatives

Simon began installing charging stations in 2011. These centers add to the 170 electric vehicle charging stations located at 56 of Simon’s shopping destinations in 16 states, allowing EV drivers to park, plug in and charge their cars while they shop the centers’ savings of 25 to 65 percent off every day.

“NRG is very excited to be expanding our relationship with Simon Property Group to seven locations in the Washington metropolitan area,” says Michael Krauthamer, eVgo’s Director of the Mid-Atlantic Region. “With the addition of these two new fast charging stations, which strongly complement a robust existing network, drivers can now conveniently cover a 10,000 square mile area stretching from Queenstown Premium Outlets to Leesburg Corner Premium Outlets and from Hagerstown Premium Outlets to St. Charles Towne Center in Waldorf.”
