New Pricing FAQ

When will the new prices be in effect?

New pricing launches September 16, 2021.

Why is EVgo moving from minutes to kilowatt hour (kWh)?

Because every electric vehicle (EV) model has a different charge rate based on their unique battery capabilities, and because EVgo’s DCFC network now includes chargers ranging from 50kW to 350kW in capacity, charging by kilowatt hour will ensure that customers are billed for the electricity delivered to their vehicle, regardless of the time spent at the station.  EVgo will pilot kWh and other features, such as location-based pricing and time of use pricing in California first, and will assess other markets for launch based on learnings.

What is location-based pricing?

Location-based pricing sets three tiers of pricing for select stations in San Francisco and Los Angeles; tiers are based on the CalEnviroScreen, station congestion, and local installation and ongoing property costs. This pilot will combine time of use and location-based pricing to, as an example, incentivize off-peak charging in lower traffic and higher polluted areas. This pilot will also provide valuable insight into the EVgo’s network planning tools for providing convenient, affordable charging and enhancing equitable access across the network.

How do I find out the price at each charger?

Price for each station will be visible in the EVgo app and on Plugshare.

When will the TOU & location-based pricing pilot period end?

EVgo has not set a predetermined end date for the pilot. We will continually assess learnings.
