How to Fast Charge with EVgo?

EVgo welcomes Tesla drivers to fast charge at any one of our 800+ EVgo stations using your own Tesla CHAdeMO adapter, or the Tesla connectors available at select cities across the US, including San FranciscoLos Angeles, Seattle, Washington DC, Virginia, Texas, Salt Lake City, San Diego, Denver, New York, Phoenix, Florida, and new cities being added in 2021.

Charge with a Tesla Connector

1. Connect your Tesla vehicle using the connector.

2. Start charging session via EVgo app, Program Card, or credit card*.

3. Return the Tesla connector back to the charger holster when your session has completed.

Charge with a Tesla CHAdeMO Adapter

1. Connect the CHAdeMO connector to the adapter by lining up the connector’s grooves (located on top) with the connector’s corresponding grooves in the Tesla adapter.

2. Push the CHAdeMO connector and adapter together until you hear a locking click.

3. Plug the Tesla connector into your vehicle so that it latches.

4. Initiate a CHAdeMO charging session using the EVgo app, charger touchscreen, EVgo Program Card, or credit card*.

Please note that the Tesla SAE J1772 charging adapter is not compatible with fast charging, but can be used at EVgo Level 2 chargers.

You can locate an EVgo station with a Tesla connector by using the EVgo app, Tesla in-vehicle navigation, or the Tesla app. Once you arrive, you will remove the Tesla connector from the charger and plug it into your vehicle. To start the session, you can pay through the EVgo app, EVgo program card, or credit card (in select locations). Return the connector to its original holder once charging session is complete, and you are back on the road!

How fast will my Tesla charge at an EVgo fast charger with an integrated Tesla connector?

Tesla drivers can charge up to 100 miles in about 30 minutes. The rate of charge will vary by the charger and the state of charge of the Tesla battery. At this time, Tesla connectors and Tesla CHAdeMO adapters can charge up to 50kW at EVgo stations.

Yes! If you own a Tesla CHAdeMO adapter you can still charge at any EVgo Fast Charging station. Any Tesla adapters not manufactured by Tesla are not approved for use at EVgo stations due to safety concerns.

Can I still charge with a Tesla CHAdeMO adapter at EVgo stations without Tesla connectors?
I am having an issue starting my charge, what should I do?

If you are having an issue starting your charge, follow these troubleshooting steps:

1) Unplug the Tesla connector from your vehicle and return it to its holster.

2) Unplug the CHAdeMO connector from the connector box attached to the side of the charger.

3) Replug the CHAdeMO cable back into the box and make sure you hear a *click*.

4) Remove the Tesla connector from its holster and replug it into your Tesla charge port

5) Start the charging session.

If your Tesla is still not charging, call EVgo Customer Support at (877) 494-3833. They can issue you a remote start for EVgo chargers at no additional cost.
